Pallet conveyors
Pallet conveyors move transport pallets independently of one another, by means of stationary drive units, along stationary conveyor routes. Pallet conveyor systems are both versatile and flexible. |

Principle
Moulds or mould carriers are conveyed on pallets past the different stations in a foaming system. The system could comprise, for example, an operator station for blank insertion or part removal, a foaming station for foam pour into the mould and curing stations where the foam completes its reaction. The pallets are metal platforms equipped to attach the moulds or mould carriers and auxiliary units, such as temperature control equipment or vacuum pumps. Electrical power can be supplied via sliding contacts, and air, water or vacuum supplied from docking stations. The pallets are moved by systems such as roller conveyors or chain drives.
Technology
Pallet conveyors are modular and so can be configured according to the required system layout, for example with straight sections, curves, transfer stations and transverse conveyors. The foam system itself can be planned to take account of the cycle times, the size of the production run and the number of product variants to be manufactured. It?s generally the case that a production plant needs to have several moulds in operation simultaneously. This requires conveyor systems for conveying moulds or mould carriers between the individual stations of a foaming line. In some manufacturing processes, the time between individual process steps varies greatly. This calls for flexible conveying systems that will allow moulds to stop at one station, eg, for handling or foaming, while other moulds are being moved between stations. Sidings can be integrated so that moulds can be changed without shutting down production. Moulds not in use in a processing sequence can be diverted out of the line for overhauling. This type of system compares favourably with plants where the conveyor platforms are linked together and must stop or move simultaneously.
Customer benefits
- Flexible production plants are capable of realizing processes that would be impossible with rigidly linked plants.
- The extra flexibility results in better utilization of all the plant components ? foaming and painting systems, mould cleaning and operator stations.
