FiberForm technology

The FiberForm process developed by KraussMaffei combines the thermoforming of organo sheets and injection molding into one process. This process results in fiber-reinforced plastic components that are particularly lightweight yet feature a high level of strength. They are used primarily in vehicle manufacturing.

Process

Highlights

  • One-step process thanks to an integrated reshaping process in the mold
  • Fully automated overall concept as compact production cell
  • Integrated infrared heating technology with highly dynamic control algorithm developed in-house
  • Short composite sheet transfer times achieved by positioning the infrared heating station near the mold
  • Pickup – heat up – transfer: Reproducible transfer of the composite sheets into the injection mold through one-time gripping
  • Integration of additional functional parts during the injection molding process
  • Combination with injection molding compounder (IMC) possible for individualized direct compounding

Your benefits

  • Attaining a high strength level by using continuous-fiber reinforcement within the composite sheets
  • High degree of weight reduction
  • Substituting steel and aluminum with fiber-composite construction
  • Complex structures can be produced with no need for rework
  • Suitable for large series: cycle times correspond to typical injection molding processes
