KraussMaffei to present ready-to-install polyurethane components at PU Tech Eurasia

Large-format components for the automotive and commercial vehicle industry

Large-format components based on reactive resins are used as covering hoods, housings or cowlings for agricultural machines, buses, commercial vehicles and special vehicles, but also in the mechanical engineering and plant construction industries. The company will exhibit in its booth a component which a large Turkish customer produced from a two-component resin system based on dicyclopentadiene (DCPD). Resins based on DCPD have significant advantages compared with standard UP resins in terms of thermal stability, impact strength, resilience, low density and styrene content. Another focal point involves PUR machines for multi-hardness flexible foam processing. These machines feature a wide processing window for shot weights and volume flows in order to operate different output rates and molds in a machine. The machines can also be used in a very flexible way.

Metering and mixing technology makes the difference

KraussMaffei offers an extensive range of machines and systems comprising mixing heads, metering machines, presses, punches, flexible cutting systems and foaming molds for polyurethane processing. The portfolio of proven metering machines is now being supplemented by other wear-optimized pump metering machines in the RimStar Series for PUR matrix systems with abrasive flame retardant additives such as expandable graphite or titanium dioxide. In order to process systems containing amines or acids, the pumps are made of stainless steel. This increases the range of use of the pumps.

The Vario nozzle, another new product, has a large reach up to a quantitative proportion of 1:5 and ensures high mixing quality and a constant mixing ratio. Since the Vario nozzle does not contain any moving seals, the time required for cleaning and maintenance is very short. The associated mixing and metering units in the RimStar Series are also equipped with integrated bearing monitoring of the pumps which display corresponding warnings in the control system when performance drops due to wear.

Pentane gas loading with completely enclosed unit

Static mixers are used specially for additional metering of pentane in the PUR component flow. Since these mixers can work under high pressure up to 220 bar, the mixture can be fed directly into a high-pressure line. The utilized high-pressure pumps achieve excellent metering accuracy even with very small volume flows. The enclosure is equipped with doors, a drip tray and connections for external extraction. The pentane concentration in the polyol is monitored by a flow meter. Other sensors can be easily connected.

Electric universal mold carrier reduces energy consumption

The newly developed mold carrier with a frame structure, a clamping force of 400 kN and a large mold fixing area is suitable for many different applications, especially for backfoaming of instrument panels and encapsulation of windows. Fast movement sequences reduce the production time while the swiveling mold fixing platens make it easier to demold parts and insert substrates. The electric drive unit reduces energy consumption, primarily during standstills.
