KraussMaffei sheds new light on American plastics processing companies

– SLP Lighting starts production with large machines
– Multicomponent machine for tail lights at Proper Group International

Some recently commissioned large injection molding machines from the MX Series in the USA conclusively demonstrate the competence of KraussMaffei in the area of headlight and light production in the automotive and electrical industries. The machines therefore satisfy the high requirements in the production of transparent covers just as reliably as the manufacture of the related housings, including the use of the multicomponent production method. The machines impress customers with their high productivity, short cycle times and low reject rates.

Positive response by customers at NPE

"We received a large number of orders for machines last year, a fact which proves that the American market developed very positively", said Paul Caprio, Managing Director of the US subsidiary KraussMaffei Corporation.
"However, we were still slightly surprised by the great demand for our products and the very positive feedback from our customers regarding the quality of our machines and service." The company, which has been operating in the USA for more than 45 years, systematically acquired this status over a long period and also geared its product and service portfolio to this market. The result is a complete range of machines with clamping forces between 35 and 4000 tonnes, including ideally adapted automation solutions. "The technology offered by KraussMaffei precisely meets the requirements of our customers on the US market in order to help them enjoy success in international competition", added Caprio.

Focus of major tasks

With more than 40 years of experience in the area of commercial lighting products, SPL Lighting, a subsidiary of Koller Craft, is one of the leading manufacturers of lamps and lighting systems for industrial use and for lighting systems in the automotive industry. SPL is now also using the premium quality machines of KraussMaffei at its plant in Sullivan, Missouri. Two injection molding machines - size: MX 2000-12000 and MX 2700-17200 - recently started to produce transparent light covers and convinced the responsible persons within the shortest possible time that they had made the right investment. "Right from the very beginning, we were impressed by the efficiency of the MX machines in regard to molding quality and productivity", said David Koller, Managing Director of SLP. "The professional working methods of KMC employees during the project phase and the installation of the machine showed us that KraussMaffei is the right partner for our company." Thanks to the increased production capacity, SLP can cover the still rising demand for premium quality lamps and satisfy the demands for short delivery periods.

Partnership in the area of headlights

Molds for the production of automobile headlights are part of the core business of Proper Group International along with injection molds for back injection of textiles or glass insert molding for multicomponent parts and also for premium quality visible parts. The company also supplies molds for polyurethane processing. Through the strategic partnership agreed in 2008 between Proper Group and KraussMaffei, both companies act successfully as system partners for injection molding technology and polyurethane technology on the US market and impress customers with complete turnkey solutions, as proved conclusively at NPE 2012 during a live demonstration of the production of SkinForm components made of thermoplastic substrates with a premium quality soft touch surface. The most recent success from this cooperation is the order for a MXZ 1600-12000/3000 multicomponent machine for sampling of molds and the production of reflector housings for the automotive industry. This is clear confirmation of the successful cooperation between both companies and the benefits of the joint technology center of Proper in Warren where KraussMaffei can use injection molding machines in the clamping force range between 80 and 2700 tonnes for developments, tests and mold samplings.
